Last night, my psychology teacher started telling us about learning disabilities and mathematics - the whole term was spent focusing mainly on language disorders.
At the end of the class, the girl sitting next to me raised her hand:
- Um, sir, the final exam was supposed to be on chapters 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11 of the textbook, however, what you've been talking about is discussed in chapter 13. Should we study this whole chapter or just the part you've just taught us?
- Oh, the teacher replied without even blinking, this is isn't on the exam.
- It isn't? the poor girl - along with everyone else - was puzzled.
- Aren't you glad?
- Well, yes!
- And have you learned something tonight?
- Yes...
And yes, we had learned many things during that class, but I think teachers should understand that students are not interested in out-of-the-curriculum matter. They really just wanna pass the class and graduate. It's sad, but it's that way - we're very focused beings.
