Note to self: add air time to my cell phone on the 3rd.
I certainly haven't been shopping for any new shoes
And I certainly haven't been spreading myself around
I still only travel by foot and by foot, it's a slow climb,
But I'm good at being uncomfortable, so
I can't stop changing all the time
I notice that my opponent is always on the go
And won't go slow, so's not to focus, and I notice
He'll hitch a ride with any guide, as long as
They go fast from whence he came
But he's no good at being uncomfortable, so
He can't stop staying exactly the same
If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it, the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me, or treat me mean
I'll make the most of it, I'm an extraordinary machine
I seem to you to seek a new disaster every day
You deem me due to clean my view and be at peace and lay
I mean to prove I mean to move in my own way, and say,
I've been getting along for long before you came into the play
I am the baby of the family, it happens, so
Everybody cares and wears the sheeps' clothes
While they chaperone
Curious, you looking down your nose at me, while you appease
Courteous, to try and help - but let me set your
Mind at ease
If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me, or treat me mean
I'll make the most of it, I'm an extraordinary machine
Do I so worry you, you need to hurry to my side?
It's very kind
But it's to no avail; I don't want the bail
I promise you, everything will be just fine
If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it, the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me, or treat me mean
I'll make the most of it, I'm an extraordinary machine
Do I look sad? Because I'm not.

I take pride in the fact that I sleep soundly at night and that I can look myself straight in the eye in the mirror everyday, and I don't have to make up excuses for myself in order to do so.

Do I look unsettled? Because I'm not.

In the words of Fiona Apple, I'm good at being uncomfortable.
Or actually, I've never looked for rocks to hold on to outside of myself. I might not have founds the best, most healthy rocks, I'll say that, but they've always proven much better than anything else from the outside world.
My unhealthy rocks have forced me to define "healthy" and my desires.
And I have balance within myself, and nothing but myself is part of it - I don't need you, I don't need to be comfortable, I don't need my little pampered world. I don't need anyone to make me happy, I don't need anybody to take care of me and make me feel worthwhile. I don't need to have or to possess. I don't need to be anybody's queen.
I can detach.
Which is probably why I'm way above that kind of stunt.

Do I seem to be longing for anything? Because I'm not.

What that need for definitions has taught me is it's much easier than you'd think to make the right decisions for the right reasons, and you get to call many more shots than you'd think. When I wake up in the morning I am happy I have done what I have done, and it's not about shoving it down anybody's throat, it's just about feeling good about oneself.

It's a matter of truth - if you're true to yourself, tell me how do you feel now?
If you've thrown it away and you don't miss it and you don't regret it, then it was trash.

Who needs trash? Although environmentalists will tell you the world produces far too much of it...

Do I look concerned? Because I'm not.

It's not that complicated.
I don't have to wonder because I know.

And I would've asked - until I realized I didn't care.

I tried to want my trash back - but I don't.

Do I look confused? Because I'm not.

I'm everywhere - yes, everywhere I look I stumble upon myself and I giggle.
Ah, projection.

... Or I could pull it and I know it wouldn't be wrong.
So! Work term is over! Finally!
I worked for 8 hours today - and yesterday was supposed to be my last day!

The bad news now: in a week from now school will be starting again.
Yuck. Just thinking about it makes me sick to the stomach.

I believe in signs but lately signs have been much confusing me.

The job offer in Ottawa was THE perfect opportunity to start my professional career, and it was certainly the best way to get away from those I feel no need to be close to.

That's why I took it.

Yesterday I received an e-mail from a friend telling me the office where she works was looking for a junior translator to temporarily fill in for a woman who's going to be on maternity leave in September.
I thanked her but declined, telling her I had accepted the other offer.

This morning I talked to the translator I'm helping with the urgent mandate I was talking about yesterday.
After we were done discussing it, she asked: "J. and I were wondering - you wouldn't happen to be interested in working in the legal field, would you?"
"Well, yes I would, actually, I'll be working in that field in September."
"Oh, I see, because J. and I talked about it and we'd be willing to do some lobbying for you in order to get you hired."
"Oh, um, wow, uh... well... I already accepted another offer..."

She left and I took off my coat, booted my computer, drank some water, feeling sort of numb.

A few minutes later she stopped by again, briefly - "Just think about it, the pay is good and you wouldn't have to move."
"I know. I'm extremely confused now."
"Haha - that's the whole point!"

Mais come on !

I've been so busy all day working on that urgent mandate, going through a ton of documents both on the network and in the huge files an assistant brought me and also going through many, many e-mails, solving stupid protection problems in documents and the like - and when I'm busy I forget a lot of things.

I forget tomorrow is my last day at work and I have a ton of little details to get done before I leave in order to get paid and get the firm paid too, I forget I can't work during my lunch hour tomorrow because my boss is inviting me and the three assistants to lunch, I forget tomorrow is my last day at work, I forget I haven't paid my credit card yet, I forget tomorrow is my last day at work - and most of all, I forget today is payday and when I finally log on to my account to pay my credit card bill, I am instantly cheered up by the presence of an amount of money I wasn't expecting to see!
Tori wrote Breakfast at every hour - it could save the world, well, I don't know about breakfast, but free ice cream on the job could certainly do it.

Yay Ben & Jerry's.
I'm suddenly feeling better.

Or maybe it has to do with the fact that my translation task has suddenly become much easier.

THANK GOD.
You can be right
And I'll be real
Honesty won't be a pain that you'll have to feel
'Cause I don't need your approval to find my worth
[...]
Does it scare you that I can be
Something different than you
Would it make you feel more comfortable if I wasn't
You can't control me
And you can't take away from me who I am
There goes my pain
There goes my chains
Did you see them falling
Because this feeling
That has no meaning
There goes the world
Off of my shoulders
There goes the world
Off of my back
You can't change me
You can't break me
There goes the world
Off of my shoulders
There goes the world
Off of my back
There it goes

One day two kids met, led by outside forces.
- I don't like you, the first one said.
- I don't like you either, the second one replied, but you can be my excuse.
- How neat - and you can be my comfort.
They stared at each other with a brand-new outlook.
"Awesome", they said at the same time - and they started laughing, together.
Since you've been gone I feel so much better
Cause I saw how mean you could be
I used to want some explanation
Now all I want is my Patsy Cline CD
How I've waited for today
When I could finally say
You jerk
You jerk
You are such a jerk
There are other words
But they just don't work
Sometimes I wish I'd mailed you that letter
That said the things I dare not say
Instead I set the thing on fire
I had to say this outloud anyway
I'm so glad I found the nerve
To say what you deserve
You jerk
You jerk
You are such a jerk
There are other words
But they just don't work
They try to be so cool
Insult you like a fool
Never take your call when you're nobody at all
Until you're somebody and then they want to be your friend
How come jerks don't know they're jerks
I don't know
