Probably because it's undoubtedly alarming to have someone close to you turn out to have a deadly disease without ever looking really sick before, especially when you never had a doctor for yourself, I must admit that, each year, when my doctor has me undergo routine tests about which I'm not supposed to get a phone call unless something's wrong, well, everytime I do NOT get a phone call, I'm not just relieved, or happy - I am plain flabbergasted.
