Argh!

The only time I ever found myself on an actual red carpet and surrounded by people I didn't know and who didn't know me, but who were really scared I might eventually be of some use to them and went all out as far as being polite went. I freaked out a little bit, but then realized I only needed to pretend I could actually be of some use to them eventually.
I just realized this is also key when starting a new job. I mean, here I pass people in the hallways constantly; most of them I don't know, but I know at some point we're gonna have to work together quite closely. For the first weeks I gave them an awkward smile, but now I actually smile at them as if I were really happy to see them and we had some kind of connection. And I wonder if they know I truly have no clue who they are and what they do...

In the You-Won't-Believe-It-People category -
I've had my belly pierced for about 10 years now. Although they were 10 years spent (sort of) fearing that one day my belly ring was going to get stuck somewhere and get RIPPED OUT of my through my belly, nothing even remotely close to that EVER happened. The worse that happened was actually that Raiontzukai got me this really cute ring with a shooting star hanging from it that gets stuck on clothes once in a while, but I usually can prevent further consequences.
And THEN, over the weekend, somehow, don't even ask me how, my belly ring got STUCK in - well, you know how, when you turn a doorknob, this metal bit goes in and out the door, and then to shut the door, that metal bit is inserted into another metal bit, with a hole in it, that's screwed into the wall next to the door? And you know how thing metal bit with a hole slightly sticks out of the wall? Well, I don't know if this thing has a name, but that's what caught my belly ring yesterday. And it fucking hurt, and my belly fucking started BLEEDING, and now of course I have to be very careful not to touch it (which is a tricky one when of course you want to apply antiseptic ointment) until the thing heals.

Yesterday was trash and compost pick-up day. (Yes, I know, fascinating.) When I got home after work, I therefore rolled the bins from the street back to their usual places, and while I was doing that, I spotted Ouzo inside the house, watching me from the bay window up on the second floor.
And what do you know, sure enough when I walked in the door, Ouzo was waiting for me in the hall...
Can you say affective disorder?

It's really (not) entertaining. As I've already mentioned, each year I seem to go to the doctor's for my physical absolutely convinced that I've got some deadly disease, and each year my doctor has me undergo some tests that show nothing out of the ordinary, or he has a perfectly honorable explanation for what I consider my "condition".
And well people, I am proud (or not) to announce that I've found my latest deadly disease, which I can worry about until the next time I see a doctor and google endlessly in order to carefully eliminate all non-offensive options.
I think that might be what they call hypochondria. (Wait, is that another dealdy disease?)

I have an "easy" button.
That's right, just like in the Staples commercials. It's big and red, and marked "easy", and when you press it, it says, in a slightly surprised and relieved tone, "that was easy".
I like to leave it at work, but as it's not my primary work tool, it's only today that I brought it at my new workstation from home.
And of course, it had to be that when I passed someone on my floor, whom I don't know at all, she said "hi", and I said "hi", and then somehow my hip must've banged against just the right spot in my shoulder bag, and we heard a man voice say: "That was easy".

In my life, hot water seems to be something I can never be bothered with. Or something.
In other words, back when I worked with Mel, because she arrived early at work, she was the one who boiled the water and made the coffee we shared. I only had to pour it in my cup and enjoy.
Then I got another job, and after a few weeks, I noticed that most days, this other lady boiled some water for herself before I arrived, so the days when I had to wait for my water to get hot were very rare.
I started a new job, again, last Wednesday. And YES, people, when I arrive at work, someone has boiled water not long before, so I only have to wait about 30 seconds before I can make my own coffee.
And because the song started playing in my head the minute I typed my intro, and also because it is slightly funny: In my life, there is someone who touches my life - waiting near, waiting here.

It started just as beautifully as any love story.
I had never really envisioned being with you, although I had heard extensively about you - you were indeed very often and enthusiatically praised, seemingly, everywhere I went.
And then you called. And I couldn't quite believe or accept how lucky I was that you would choose me and step out right there, right when I was lost in the middle of nowhere, looking for myself and for a way out of my unhappy, broken days, and that you would offer to take me away.
So I followed you, full of ignorance and naiveté, and you fulfilled my wildest dreams. You introduced me to awesome people, took me under your wing and produced an amazingly improved, and just plain good, new version of myself. I was happy.
I am lucky, although I don't always see it. In this case, I am lucky because you mostly hurt others, and not me. But I was affected by the fact that you were taking your toll on those I love - and one day I woke up and saw the toll you'd taken on me.
I still felt like waking up to you in the morning and doing all those things we did together - but everytime, after a little while, it all felt unsatisfactory. Not as easy as it was before. I thought it was a phase, and waited for it to be over - except it never ended. You were sending my friends away. You were never truly appreciative of anything I did, but you kept asking for more.
In order to protect myself, I stopped being actively involved in my relationship with you. I stopped going out of my way to make you happy. I couldn't bring myself to do it anymore, because I knew you didn't really care. I knew you weren't really worth it. But I remained by your side - because you had broken me on some level, and because I didn't know better.
When I left, I wasn't too sure. I was disappointed that I had to leave. And then for a while the hard feelings I harboured for you that I had been pushing at the back of my mind gradually came forward, and grew stronger.
I can still see you; I am still watching you. I still wish I could have stayed. I loved being with you. I wish you had not pushed me, and everyone, away. But I can see you are still hurting those I love, and I know you will never change.
So now, after all this time, I can't help but hate you.
Author's Note: I hate having to put up such warnings, but in order to avoid any confusion and panic amongst my limited readership, I would like to point out that this, although not a work of fiction, is a METAPHOR, people. Thank you.

Starting a new job means having, to start with, a workstation that defies absolutely every rule of ergonomics. It's depressing. I actually don't understand why they do try to start people off like this.
I mean, the new job looks really exciting. Seriously. But looking at my workstation, I feel like crying out out loud to Mother Ergonomics for help....
I'll give you one example, and only one: my keyboard-mouse tray is shaped in such a way that my keyboard and my mouse pad each actually go OVER the tray, on each side...

Today, first day after getting back from a 10-day vacation down South (Miami and cruise): sleep in while Amazing Boyfriend drives the car to the garage to get the freaking wipers fixed at a crazy price, do groceries, relax, get the cats back from R and V.
Tomorrow: tackle New Job, a.k.a. Dream Job.

Probably because it's undoubtedly alarming to have someone close to you turn out to have a deadly disease without ever looking really sick before, especially when you never had a doctor for yourself, I must admit that, each year, when my doctor has me undergo routine tests about which I'm not supposed to get a phone call unless something's wrong, well, everytime I do NOT get a phone call, I'm not just relieved, or happy - I am plain flabbergasted.
