So Raiontzukai and I went to Lake Placid this weekend with ten other friends/people we barely knew/people we did not know at all. We arrived Friday night to the cottage we rented. What an amazing place it was - well, presumably, every place that's equiped to be big enough for 12 people has to be amazingly big, but really! It was huge, beautiful, and beautifully-located. And split amongts 12 people, the price to pay was more than reasonable.

Anyways, we got up very early (Rob: that means 7 o'clock, and it IS very early for us Canadians ;)) and drove to Adirondack Loj in order to climb Wright Peak and Algonquin Peak. Yes, the two of them, while we were at it. And never mind the fact that it was the very first time I made any attempt at serious hiking.

It took us two hours to get to the fork from which we have access to Wright and Algonquin. We decided to go for Algonquin first as it is classified as "difficult" and we might as well get the hardest one out of the way while we still had energy. It took us another hour to get to the top, and it was fucking hard, let me tell you! We were disappointed once we got there because it was so cloudy and misty, so we couldn't see anything. And how windy and cold it was! We all sat down one behind the other next to a tall rock to have lunch, and then we started going down. We'd decided not to go up Wright Peak because of the lack of view up Algonquin Peak, but as we got back down to the fork, the skies cleared up.

So we climbed up Wright Peak from the fork, which took us about half an hour. The scenery was so amazing from there, we took a hundred pictures each and we stayed there for a good hour, after which we started going down.

We started hiking at 9 in the morning and got back to our cars at 5:30 in the afternoon. My knees hurt for the rest of the day, and let me tell you, since yesterday, I am seriously sore !

Yesterday we had breakfast in a restaurant, and then we went for a little shopping on Main St, which is, in case you didn't suspect it, the main street of Lake Placid. We bought some souvenirs AND I FOUND my new travel purse. Which I absolutely love. I really need to go somewhere soon so I can use it... Mel and I are supposed to go to Greece next year in August/September, and I couldn't possibly wait A WHOLE YEAR!!!!

How did you ever manage to find your way around such a huge town? You must have spent hours on the subway! My head spins just thinking about the vast metropolis that is Lake Placid. ;)
