Why is everyone so freaked out by the privacy issues that are related to Facebook, while nobody seems to care about those related to Google?

Because Facebook is a toy and Google is a tool. We need tools and therefore have to put up with whatever it takes to get them. We don't need toys, so we can insist they do things our way or just ditch them. Besides, there was quite an uproar when google changed their policies, it just fizzled quickly.
